Summary:
Primary responsibilities include preparation of Proposals and grant applications, and performance of responsible professional and administrative work in researching, identifying, developing, and responding to public and private grant opportunities. Qualified candidates should possess excellent writing and computer skills (Microsoft Office Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Excel), and database management skills. The Candidate must be highly organized with the ability to implement systems and follow-up processes, able to effectively work under pressure, use independent judgment and produce a quality work product within tight time constraints. Previous experience will demonstrate a proven track record in securing new funding opportunities; comprehensive knowledge of research, and the ability to distinguish and identify funding opportunities for special programs.
Work is performed under direction of the Director of Sponsored Programs with the majority of work performed independently.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Researches and identifies government and private funding prospects.
- Generates proposals and supporting documents in response to solicitations.
- Generates revenues for University programs and services through timely submission of well-researched, well-written, and well-documented grant and fund-raising proposals.
- Writes reports to government, foundations, and other funders.
- Assist faculty and researches with development of proposals and grant applications for submission.
- Identifies funding opportunities and new program areas to match institutional priorities, using research tools.
- Serves as a liaison to funding agencies.
- Engages with program officers at federal agencies
and foundations to solicit invitations to submit proposals.
- Special projects as needed.
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Minimum: A bachelor’s degree
- Preferred: A master’s degree or equivalent
- Minimum of two years experience with grant writing.
- Previous experience with non-profit fundraising.
- Experience working in deadline-driven environments.
- Able to work well in a team environment, handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required:
- Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals.
- Strong editing skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of fundraising information sources.
- Experience with proposal writing and institutional donors.
- Knowledge of basic fundraising techniques and strategies.
- Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospect research.
- Strong contributor in team environments
Working Conditions and Physical Conditions:
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
- Some work performed in community setting.
- No or very limited physical effort required.
- No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
