SUMMARY:

The Director of Development is a part of the Division of External Relations and Development, under the supervision of the Vice President for Administration, External Relations and Development. This position performs specific fund raising activities related to annual giving, planned and deferred giving and capital campaigns.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develops strategies for gift solicitations; identifies, cultivates, and solicits individuals, foundations and corporations to reach definite goals and targeted amounts.
  2. Plans, develops and implements fund raising programs (based upon approval of Vice President) that may include: annual fund drive; major donor cultivation and gifts; planned and deferred giving; special project fund raising; major capital campaigns.
  3. Manages, cultivates and solicits a portfolio of donor prospects as assigned.
  4. Team effectively with KSU units and key volunteers to create, implement, direct and maintain a vibrant fundraising and donor program.
  5. Builds strong relationships with faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of the KSU.
  6. Utilizes the most appropriate strategies to achieve fund raising objectives to include: printed materials; phone-a-thon campaigns; volunteer solicitors and audio/visual presentations.
  7. Engages and encourages faculty participation in the fundraising process to obtain support for the programs in the University. Assists faculty in planning and marketing specific research and educational programs to specific individual, foundation and corporate prospects
  8. Creates and oversees effective marketing strategies and outreach events to recognize and appreciate past donors and ensure their constant awareness of the current needs and objectives of the university
  9. Coordinates development strategies and events with other university units.
  10. Maintains a comprehensive file of prospective donors. Utilizes the Alumni/Development System (ADS) or similar alumni/development system in compiling and tracking prospective donors.
  11. Plans and develops fund raising communication strategies that are designed to establish and maintain open communication channels between the University and its various constituencies.
  12. Assists with the planning and development of University special projects that are in the furtherance of the institution's advancement efforts.
  13. Performs other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the Associate Vice-President of External Relations and Development and/or the Vice President of External Relations and Development.
  14. Other related duties as required.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Baccalaureate degree; master's degree preferred.
  • Experience: Five + years experience in fund raising or related experience; minimum of seven years preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Strong oral and written communication and excellent interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work individually on a project or in a team environment
  • An ability to work effectively and collegially within a university system and to negotiate with a wide range of constituencies
  • Expertise in program development, analysis, and evaluation
  • An understanding of federal and state legislation and compliance issues that affect delivery of quality educational services to students
  • A demonstrated ability to manage details, efficient work habits, and flexibility. Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment along with the ability to accept interruptions as part of the routine
  • Drive, passion, and leadership skills to drive and manage the successful design, development and launch of a successful website

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment
  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk
