What is iTunes U?
iTunes U is a free service that allows colleges and universities to post audio and video educational content, including seminar and lecture recordings, student assignments, interviews and audio books online using a content management system based on iTunes. The content can be downloaded easily by students 24 hours a day to a Mac or PC and they can take it with them using the iPod or mp3 player.
What is Podcasting?
Podcasting is a word that is derived from iPod and Broadcasting. It is a technology that allows syndication and distribution of multimedia content to a user's computer or portable device such as an iPod, Zune, or mp3 player. Podcasts are the audio or video files that can be downloaded from the Internet.
What are the hardware/software requirements to view KSU on iTunes U?
iTunes U requires that you download and install iTunes version 6.0 or later for Mac and Windows. ITunes U works with most modern browsers. Apple recommends using: Safari 2.0 or later on MAC and for windows Internet Explorer 6.0 or later.
What if I have windows? Can I still install iTunes?
Yes, iTunes is compatible with Windows 2000/XP. You can select which operating system you have when downloading free from the apple website.
Will the iTunes U content created at KSU be available to anyone, including non-registered students and alumni?
There are two ways to access the content on iTunes U: public and private. Course content will be private and accessible only to those who are registered for a particular class that has podcasting content. Public access is available to the general public.
I am interested in contributing content. Whom do I contact?
To contribute content to the KSU on iTunes U pilot, please complete the Request for Podcasting Services form. Your request will then be considered for the pilot. Please keep in mind that this is a pilot and due to limited resources, your request may not be approved.
Will I have to pay to access KSU on iTunes U?
No. Preview and download access to KSU on iTunes U is free.
Can I connect my iPod to different computers and download music from each?
No. Your iPod can only synchronize content with a single iTunes library on a specific computer. If you synchronize your iPod with a different computer, the content currently stored on your iPod will be erased and replaced with the content stored within the new computer's iTunes library.
Does a person have to have an iPod to use iTunes U?
No. The content can be listened to or viewed from a PC or Mac. The course audio content will be in mp3 format which can be used with any mp3 player.
